Listed on the Heritage Register, the Gusola Block can be found at the corner of Commercial and Wharf Streets at the core of Nanaimo’s art district.

Designed by Turley Brothers Contractors and built in 1937, this building was constructed for Mr. & Mrs. Alex Gusola. The property contains a three storey building which was completely reconstructed in 2007, although its Art Deco heritage has been largely maintained.

As a prominent building in the heart of downtown Nanaimo, the Gusola Block is now home to a French bistro/bakery, Mon Petit Choux, on the main floor. There is another store-front or gallery space on the lower level, at 78 Wharf Street, right across from Diana Krall Plaza. There are also three residential apartments on the upper floor, providing tenants with a prime downtown location to call home.

As noted, the building underwent significant upgrades in 2007. In addition to the complete interior re-build, the major building electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems were all replaced at that time.
